360° View of Cheryl

Deciding which coach to work with can require a lengthy shopping excursion.  That can be time consuming and unproductive.  Because coaching is very personal (and very virtual), I thought you might benefit from reading what my family, friends, co-workers, other coaches, and clients have to say about their experience of me.  Because they all know me in different ways, you get a broader picture of who I am and whether we’ll be compatible and great collaborators.

My Former Coach

Being Cheryl’s coach has made me proud beyond belief. For, to coach someone like Cheryl is a gift of enormous magnitude. She’s super bright, she always follows through, and she engages in provocative conversations. But here’s the really big deal–she’s a visionary.  She can extrapolate from a current point of view or way of being/living/working and and see a new and better way/model, an end point and how to get there.

AND…from a very selfish perspective coaching Cheryl is great because I get coached along the way without even knowing it! By the way, that’s masterful coaching. That’s the kind of coaching you want.

For instance, my wife and I were looking to buy a house. One comment from Cheryl and I decided not to buy. Best decision I’ve made in a long time. And I didn’t even realize what happened until a few days later. That type of event has occurred more times than I can remember since I’ve been coaching her.

I can only imagine what it’d be like to have her coach me. It would be a big fat WOW! experience, that’s for sure.

My Family

Cheryl is a beautiful person, both inside and out, is a faithful friend and loving daughter.  She amazes me with her wide range of knowledge, especially of self-help and wellness coupled with an ability and discipline to incorporate this into her life.  Cheryl is clear thinking and able to eliminate nonessentials.  Of course she is goal-oriented and is able to find a way to handle discouragement and roadblocks.

She is empathetic and cares about others, is a good listener but can see the whole picture and come up with inspiring and helpful suggestions.  She has strong spiritual values and tries daily to live them.  She sees everyone as a special child of a loving God.  Your life will be enriched as you come to know this delightful, creative person.  We are glad to share her with the world.

In my 40 years of travel as a consultant, I learned a great deal about people.  Their personality, work habits and goals were widely varied.  After a great deal of thought, I have chosen to highlight the following characteristics that I believe have made you an outstanding person:
  • self discipline to carry through on a project
  • care for people you come into contact with
  • positive thinking when working with others
  • new ideas and the ability to project them to others
  • the ability to search out the needs of those you work with
  • public speaking and the emotional identity with another is a strong point for you
  • your love of work and the ability to get things done right
  • your ability to change the negative to the positive in others
  • your understanding and support when confronted with problems that might arise in your work
  • your ability to set goals and work to accomplish them is very evident in your work ethic
  • your spiritual background and love of others is a blessing.

You are my daughter and I love you very much.

(My parents wrote notes and outlines in order to express these touching thoughts.  With parents like this, no wonder I feel successful).

My sister, Cheryl, is a very sensitive and caring person.  She has a soft and gentle approach which takes everyone’s feelings and needs into consideration.  She is highly educated and possesses the knowledge and the skills to get the job done.  Cheryl has a positive attitude.  She has the ability to teach/coach people on how they can improve their quality of life by focusing on things they may have never considered.

Cheryl has the ability to listen carefully and get to the center of any problem I’ve ever presented to her. Instead of one suggestion, she almost always comes up with multiple solutions or goals that are appropriate and attainable.

Workshop Participants and Clients

Last year a stranger, this year I consider Cheryl a friend.  I heard Cheryl speak and then signed up for her class. It was one of the best things I ever did for myself.  Cheryl is a great presenter, and more important a great listener.  She could zero in on what I needed in my life. With a few simple suggestions she made me aware of what I needed to do and I was off and running.  And with her help I had two job offers and a lot more confidence than I had in years.

After taking Cheryl Miller’s class on Clearing Clutter I was able to let go of the old things of the past.  Her light-hearted, humorous way of presenting made me feel at ease.  And I was able to laugh at old habits and patterns that were keeping me stuck and keeping me from moving forward in my life.  Making changes is fun, and I am thankful that Cheryl is my teacher and coach to assist me in releasing my old way of doing and being and making choices for who I am now.  Thank you, Cheryl!

Cheryl Miller has been a catalyst for me finally solving a problem I’ve had for a long time.  Although I am a professional, a business owner, a good mom, wife, sister, friend and daughter, have a master’s degree and am quite happy and fulfilled, I have had this pesky problem with paper!  Cheryl is helping me change from being overloaded and perplexed by paper to being in charge of it and letting go of some of it.  She is a fun, witty, smart, savvy and all-around delightful person and educator.

I took her 5-week workshop, have had a personal coaching visit to the house, and have invited her to speak twice at a professional women’s club I belong to.  She never fails to be a positive force, and she’s funny to boot—we all laughed a ton.  She really knows how to facilitate change.

Cheryl is indeed a facilitator of change.  And I know about change.  I, myself, am a change agent.  I like how well-grounded Cheryl’s data and approach are.  She is a change agent.  Even though I am a psychotherapist, I needed some help to change.  Thanks to Cheryl, I am changin’ my paper-piling ways and feeling good about it.

When you hear the word ‘coach’ most of us visualize a person who helps athletes or students refine their skills for competition.  However, not all coaches work with athletes.  Cheryl Miller is a life coach, and though some of her clients may be athletes, I am not.  All good coaches have the ability to instruct, prepare, train, and advise. Cheryl is adept at using each of these skills during a coaching session.

When I sought out Cheryl as a life coach, I was looking for someone to help me generate more energy and purpose in my daily life.  I had been in a slump for some time.  I just could not seem to pull from within the motivation I needed to move in the directions I wanted to move.  I went to Cheryl with a list of things I wanted to change in my life.  As we talked through each item, it quickly became clear that these were just symptoms of deeper issues.

Cheryl listened, clarified and asked probing questions to get at the root of my lack of motivation.   She asked what I wanted to accomplish between now and the next session, and then we set goals.  I was usually given a homework assignment.  The homework always challenged me to reflect more deeply, or in a new way, one of the issues, topics or goals.  Some of the homework required me to write or create lists.  Other times the homework was a checklist that would clarify an issue, or identify new issues. Some assignments sent me seeking  input from friends who always had additional insight on the topic.

The homework assignments provided much needed accountability in my life.  They forced me to spend time on me – reflecting, creating, and focusing on the issues, needs, and activities of my daily life.  As the sessions progressed, I found that I was no longer just going through each day and waiting for the next.  Instead, I am now planning and creating my days and focusing my energies on the activities, people and goals that are important to me.

There is a very fine line between a coach and a counselor.  Cheryl is skilled at walking that line.  Previous and current emotions and events frame every aspect of our life.  As a life coach, Cheryl offers insight, probes with permission, and gives suggestions for new directions, new thoughts or new insights that I can claim as my own.  A coach positively enables and empowers someone else towards action – and that is what Cheryl Miller, my coach, has done for me.”

First installment of a looooooooooooooooooong overdue testimonial. I just don’t feel anything does justice to what I’ve gained from your support, talent, friendship, patience.

Until I experienced coaching by phone, I was certain it would never be useful, effective, or satisfying enough to be worthwhile. I was so wrong. In some ways it’s been even better than face-to-face forms of support. There is no distraction at all, such as maintaining eye contact or reading body language. You don’t have to worry about getting there on time, because it’s done from the comfort of your home.

If the goal is creating a plan of action, both the client and coach are free to be writing or word processing the plan while the session is in progress, so it’s done and ready for use immediately.

On the other hand, when deep interpersonal work has been the optimum way to get past stuck places, it’s been done amazingly well over-the-phone. In fact, the flexibility of the coaching-by-phone approach has been one of its many strengths.

These features blend perfectly with Cheryl’s exceptional array of skills, information, and experience. This, plus her ability to be professional yet personal in her approach to meeting my individual needs, make having her for a personal coach an ideal way to improve or enhance any aspect of life.
